Taipei 101 is Taipei's landmark building and a must see for many visitors to Taiwan. If you want to get a bird's eye views of Taipei, then you should definitely visit the Taipei 101 Observatory. A skyscraper that was once the world's tallest from its opening in 2004 until 2009, the elevators can transport passengers from the 5th to 89th floor in just 37 seconds. Suspended from the 92F to 89F, it has a big steel pendulum that serves as a tuned mass damper(TMD), which helps prevent damage due to strong winds. The indoor observation deck is on the 88F and 89F, and two outdoor observation decks (91F and 101F), all offering 360-degree views. The Indoor Observatory offers a nice environment with large windows to see. Here, you can buy food, drinks and gift items. Two more flights of stairs takes you up to the Outdoor Observatory. The Indoor Observatory is open from 9am to 10pm throughout the week as well as on special occasions; the Outdoor Observatory is open during the same hours as weather permits. Tickets are sold in the 5F or in advance through their official website.Tickets cost NT$600 and allow access to the 88F~91F via high-speed elevator. In the 101 top floor they offer a VIP room and an outdoor viewing platform with a quota of 36 people per day and is subject to prior booking and requires safety equipment, such as a safety belt buckled to the railing. It is the perfect viewing observatory for both daytime and nighttime views.
