Description

The Shilin Residence is the former residence of late Republic of China President, General Chiang Kai-shek. Since 1996, it has been open to the public and is a popular place for viewing the gardens. It has a outer and inner garden and the official residence. The official residence home is a two-story western style home and open to public. The tour takes no more than 30 minutes but there are many historic exhibitions that showed off the lifestyle of Chiang and wife Madame Soong Mei Ling and tells the story of the KMT's rule of Taiwan after arriving here in mid 1940s. The outer garden has a greenhouse area and a rose garden full of orchids and roses. The inner garden has a Western garden and a Chinese garden. They also have a themed garden that changes occasionally. This is a nice attraction to visit as it is closed to the Shilin MRT station and has lots of open spaces for kids to run around. For older kids, it would be a great history lessons about the earlier KMT rulings in Taiwan.
